I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, attending nursing school there before moving to Perry County, Ohio, in 1972. For 26 years, I served as a Women’s Healthcare Nurse Practitioner in a community health center. Alongside my nursing career, I served in the Ohio Air National Guard and later transferred to the Air Force Reserve, retiring after 29 years of service in 2002. Settling in Mad River Township in 2004, I continued working in an outpatient clinic at Wright Patterson AFB until my retirement in 2013.
My firsthand experience with the environmental impact of surface mining began in Perry County, where strip mining marred thousands of acres of once-beautiful land. Witnessing the devastation to the landscape, waterways, and wildlife motivated me to join the fight against a proposed quarry in our neighborhood.
