I grew up in Enon with my 5 siblings on New Horizon Avenue. Many days were spent rolling down the hill on summer days or sledding down the hill on winter days. I began my teaching career at Enon Elementary where my second grade students put on a phenomenal play entitled, The Dump Monster in the spring of 1981.
After spending more than 30 years teaching elementary students (special ed through gifted) I retired from the Huber Heights City Schools. For several years after retiring, I worked at the Kroc Center in Dayton as an after school teacher for students of low socioeconomic status. I was the gifted coordinator, taught the ILE classes and directed the daily MLS Bulldog News in the Yellow Springs Schools.
After finally retiring, I have pursued a number of art and nature related activities. I have joined the Village Artisans Cooperative in Yellow Springs where I sell functional pottery and hand woven items. In addition, I monitor easements for BW Greenway and regularly volunteer at the Huffman Prairie.
In March of 2017, with news of a quarry circulating, I joined Citizens Against Mining (CAM) to actively oppose the Jurgensen’s proposed limestone mining plan to blast and dig directly across from my house – a mere stone’s throw from my front yard! I have maintained the CAM website and am continually looking for interesting ways to inform others in the community of the probable, negative consequences this quarry will bring to our neck of the woods.
As president of CAM I have had the pleasure to serve with a phenomenal group of concerned, dedicated and knowledgeable people. Please join us in this struggle entering its eighth year.
